Bucharest

Co-ordinator: Susan Hughes

Dubbed The Paris of the East, and meaning City of Joy, the capital city has been left badly scarred by the Communist Period. However there is still much beauty hidden away in backstreets and on the outskirts.

Bucharest is well connected by road and rail to the rest of Romania, Muzika teams usually land at Otopeni airport and then continue on to other areas.

Over the years Muzika has carried out important and varied trainings within the city of Bucharest itself.

  • Work with street children.
  • With Arpeham, a group of parents struggling to address the needs of their children with special needs, and to promote the dignity and self worth of the group.
  • With Associata Spiritul Copiilor, supporting Alice and her group of very vulnerable children and their families.
  • With Trebuie (We Must). There has been a mutually beneficial collaboration for more than six years with Vanda Florea and the children and adults in her care. With emphasis on multi-art training for professionals from both NGOs and government institutions, we have reached many people to empower them and their charges, and provide support and encouragement.
  • Ongoing training with staff and children at The Sun House-Casa Soarelui, a residential centre for chidren with Aids and additional needs. Support and encouragement for Kitty, the coordinator of this centre, is one of our aims.
  • Ongoing training for staff at Crinul Alb-White lily, a centre for children and young adults who have ben abandoned by their families and whose needs are complex and challenging. Again, support and encouragement for Mioara Cazac, the director of this centre, in her struggle to unite her staff in a common goal for the benefit of the children,is an important factor of our work.

We will continue our involvement in Bucharest, stimulating and educating children, adults and staff and thus fostering an acceptance of these individuals and their needs within their local communities and beyond.
